 New Sunday Community Games
31 Jan 2009 - 08:01 by TALON FirstStrike News | comments (187)
Greetings Troopers!

Today we have some excellent eye candy for you, and some great news.

Since the release of 1.4 one of the major gripes of new players joining the First Strike gaming community are that there are too few players and not enough opportunities to play the game as it was intended with fantastic sprawling battles with 60 + players that truly reflect the epic scale that is Star Wars.

The Saturday night Community Game helps out with this issue, but this is but one night in the week where this can be experienced, and we feel that is just not enough. New gamers coming to First Strike are stunned by how good the game is when playing in these community games, but the numbers required to experience this just don't seem to be around during the week. We feel the more new people who experience the game in this fashion, the more they will stick around, and as such we have decided to expand the FS gaming calendar to two Community Games a week for the whole of February. This will be one Community Game on Saturday as we have currently at 21:00 GMT, and a second one on Sunday night at the slightly earlier time of 19:00 GMT. If we get as good a turn out for both these gaming nights as we currently get for the Saturday Community Games, then this will become a permanent fixture, and possibly even more Official CGs will be announced as we feel that just giving people a time and a place to meet up which guarantees a highly populated game of First Strike will help more people to experience our mod the way it was intended.

So support both the First Strike Community Games Nights and experience the epic battles that are possible with First Strike. These nights will commence this coming weekend with Sunday the 1st of February as the first extra Community Game, be sure not to miss it. Now to get you geared up for the coming games here is the eye candy promised, a selection of action shots from previous Community Games so you know the sort of epic scale and action you can expect to find.

See you Saturday, and see you Sunday too.

Top 100 Released Mods of 2008

Hello again loyal troopers,

It is with great pleasure that we announce that First Strike has made it into the Top 100 Mods of 2008 over at ModDB. Now the second stage of the Mod of the Year awards commences, and the voters must narrow the selection down to the top 5.

Once more we ask the faithful to rise up. Head over to ModDB's website to get your votes in, and let's see if we can't reach that final stage. If you enjoy First Strike, show your appreciation by casting your vote today. Remember, you do have three votes to use in this round, so be sure to vote for the other mods you enjoy as well.

We'd also like to take this opportunity to thank the community and all those who already voted for helping us make it to the top 100. It really is you guys, the members of our community that make First Strike what it is. We couldn't do it without you. To show our appreciation, we have this lovely wallpaper made by FSDev| RedMonkey that showcases one of the new vehicles in First Strike v1.4, the T-16 Skyhopper:

1.4 Release Review & Screenshot Extravaganza
15 Jan 2009 - 13:01 by nekosaur FirstStrike News | comments (228)
Greetings Troopers!

Now that the dust has settled after a seasonal session of good solid fragging over the Christmas and New Years holidays, it is time to take stock, and see how First Strike 1.4 was recieved when we finally released it just prior to Christmas.

If you've been playing at all during the holidays you've no doubt noticed the stream of new faces that have been appearing on the galactic battlefield, filling up the Community Games every weekend and turning up in reasonable numbers during the week. All in all I'd say 1.4 has done pretty well, and releasing over Christmas was a solid idea as it gave people a chance to play to their hearts' content, in between the turkey and Christmas pud. If you are one of these new faces, first let me just say Welcome, and then I'd like to remind you of both the First Strike Wiki where you will find a wealth of information on everything from weapons and vehicles to map information and objectives. Also don't forget to check out our forums where you will find many a community member ready to answer your questions.

As with any new release there were a few hickups along the way, with new bugs introduced and old ones forgotten that needed to be addressed quickly. And addressed they were thanks to the new streamlined First Strike Launcher which now gives us the ability to more easily update the mod with fixes that can reach you far quicker than ever before. This system will allow us to get patches to you faster and as a result will mean a more steady stream of new content for you guys. Unfortunately the Launcher also brought with it a few issues of its own. If you're having problems, be sure to stop by our Client Support forum and we'll help you get your mod sorted. Rest assured that the problems are being dealt with, and a fix will be out as soon as possible.

Speaking of new content the three new maps have already proven to be immensely popular, with the award for most play time going to Null Sensor Station clocking in at almost 40 hours, with Bandomeer Refinery Assault coming in second at nearly 29, and Lok Wastelands not far behind on just under 24 hours. What's cool about this batch of new maps is that they all deliver something that is unique and individual to the table, be that blasting away with powerful tanks across Lok, engaging in epic shuttle on shuttle aerial battles over Bandomeer, or making that last desperate push up a stairwell in an Imperial base to capture the command centre on Null, each one is a very different animal, and they are all fine additions to First Strike because of that.

Lastly I'd just like to remind you that if you haven't already, don't forget to vote for your favorite Star Wars mod over at ModDB, and we'd like to thank you all for your continuing support. As long as you guys keep playing we'll keep adding more content to this fine mod. And let's not forget that the Battle of Hoth is just around the corner.

So keep enjoying yourselves out there, and we'll see you soon on the battlefields in that galaxy far, far away...

02 Jan 2009 - 11:01 by nekosaur FirstStrike News | comments (259)

Well Troopers,

It is that time of the year. ModDB's Mod of the Year awards are upon us once again, so it's time to rally the troops and get those votes in for your favorite Star Wars mod for Battlefield 2142.

So don't delay, get your butts over to our ModDB profile HERE and get your votes registered before January 16th and help us qualify for the Top 100 Mods of the year, and then following that should we qualify, voting will continue to find out which mod will come out on top in the 2008 ModDB Mod of the Year Awards. Oh and remember, votes from ModDB members are more valued than non-member votes, so be sure to login (or register if you feel like it) before voting.

Help us, oh loyal and faithful Troopers, you're our only hope...

Now get voting people!

And a Happy New Year to you all!
