First Strike Now BF2142 v.1.51 Compatible
24 Feb 2011 - 14:02 by TALON FirstStrike News | comments (0)
Greetings Troopers!

We are happy to announce that First Strike is now fully compatible with Battlefield 2142 version 1.51. Today we are releasing an update which will allow your launcher to work no matter which version (on-line, original or deluxe) of BF2142 you have. Just run First Strike as you normally would and an auto-update will take care of everything. Also don't worry if you've performed the temporary manual fix we suggested to get you up and running and make First Strike compatible with BF2142 1.51, that will not effect this update in the slightest.

So now please enjoy the freedom of disc free play, and we'll see you out there troopers.

 The AT-AT Commander
03 Feb 2011 - 16:02 by TALON FirstStrike News | comments (1)
Greetings Troopers!

With this update we'd like to introduce you to one of the unique new assets we've been developing for the much anticipated First Strike Battle of Hoth map. We've had a slow start this year with many of us having heavy work commitments limiting our time to develop for First Strike, but the work is coming on.

So today we take a look at the development of the first new character model to grace this mod in quite a few years. With our initial development of the mod we had many character modellers and skinners working on the team developing many of the iconic character/soldier types from the movies, with their many variants, the standard Stormtrooper, Sandtrooper and Snowtrooper for instance is a good example. Even though we might not have had the maps for them to inhabit we were ready for most of the locales seen in the movie as far as character meshes were concerned. However there was a gap in our assets in this area, though we had developed cold weather Rebel forces and Imperial Snowtroopers we were missing some vital assets for Hoth, namely the AT-AT Commander.

Now the nice thing about this character once we took it into development, was how much was borrowed from other assets in the Star Wars universe. Basically we were looking at an Imperial Officer reskin, with an Imperial Snowtrooper's breastplate and helmet. So with that we had everything we needed already, we just had to take the different pieces and knit them together. And with ex-devs' Chai, JayBiggS and Luuri's fine work to build on it wasn't long before we had a shiny new custom character model for the Battle of Hoth. Below is a short video of the new mesh in action.

Stay tuned for more, as I think you might already be able to guess what the next new soldier mesh we need to work on is.

See you out there Troopers!
