 NIC First Strike Campaign Recruitment
30 Mar 2011 - 12:03 by TALON FirstStrike News | comments (22)
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away...

The epic struggle for control of the galaxy continues. The Galactic Empire tightens its grip, amassing huge space armadas with a war machine the likes of which had not been seen since the time of the Clone Wars. With Imperial shipyards churning out a seemingly unending supply of TIE fighters and ever larger and more impressive Star Destroyer class war cruisers, is there hope?

In the face of their seemingly insurmountable foe, the Rebel Alliance grows ever bolder. With their resolve galvanised by the increasingly tyrannical actions of the Empire, the Alliance to Restore the Republic grows stronger as the oppressed peoples of the galaxy flock to join up and fight back. And with rumours surfacing of a new technological terror with the sheer power to decimate entire planets, the Rebellion's plight grows even more desperate. The Empire quite simply must be stopped.

It is in these dark times that heroes are made. Soldiers with the grim determination to maintain order no matter what the cost. Freedom fighters with the courage to battle against tyranny and oppression in all its forms. It is on these battlefields on land and in space, where the fate of the galaxy will be decided.

Preparations for the Nations in Conflict First Strike Campaign continue. The Commanders for the two factions have now been selected, two long standing members of the First Strike community, Gwynzer (Taking on the role of Commander of the Imperial: 501st Legion) and Angel (Tackling the role of Commander of the Rebel Alliance: SpecForce). They are veteran players of First Strike who have been around since the first release of the mod, and as regular players for all these years should have invaluable knowledge of tactics and experience to share with those under their command. Now in full swing is the process of recruiting Officers who will be put in command of the squads that will battle it out over the campaign, and of course the grunts that will form the backbone of both faction's military might.

 The AT-AT Driver
20 Mar 2011 - 13:03 by TALON FirstStrike News | comments (145)
Greetings Troopers!

Following on from our last development related update we'd like to introduce you to the second of the new and unique character assets we've been developing for the much anticipated Battle of Hoth map. Earlier this year we showed you the first new character model to be developed for First Strike in some years. Now we'd like to introduce you to his best buddy, after all what would an AT-AT Commander be without a crew under his command?

So today we take a look at the development of the AT-AT Driver. Now at first glance the AT-AT Driver appears to be just a new paint job on the existing character costume for the Imperial TIE Pilot, with a few bits and bobs added to make it appear different from the original, and on the surface you'd be right. But as we investigated further, and we researched this character's uniform for the development of the in game model we found that there was quite a bit more to it than that, for example the helmet size used was considerably larger than that used for the TIE Pilot, helping to give it a more unique look, and most interestingly the armour for this unit is not actually white as it appears to be in the movies and most promotional material and models of this character, it is actually a quite deep grey which appeared white under the bright studio lights during filming. So to be in keeping with our efforts to strive for authenticity within First Strike you'll find that our AT-AT Driver sports grey armour too. There was also much work involved in finding decent reference images of a lot of the new specific details which adorn the uniform of the AT-AT Driver, but I believe we've done a good job of tracking these elements down and have translated them successfully into our work on the character mesh.

In game this character mesh will take on the role of the Imperial Support Trooper on the Battle of Hoth map, giving the AT-AT Driver an appropriate engineer/logistics type role on the battlefield when not behind the wheel of an All Terrain Armoured Transport. However the AT-AT Walker cockpit will be where this soldier feels most at home, and no more so than when his Commander hollers over his shoulder...

"Target, Maximum Firepower!"

And don't forget to head over to our First Strike Community Games Saturday and Sunday nights at 20:00GMT.

See you out there Troopers.

 First Strike Community Games
08 Mar 2011 - 12:03 by TALON FirstStrike News | comments (11)
Greetings Troopers!

With the release of BF2142 1.51 and the added functionality of diskless play we have seen an influx of brand new players to the mod, the promise of a BF2142 release on Steam could lead to a further resurgence of popularity of this game, and in turn additional new players that may be interested in First Strike. It is sure an interesting time, with plenty of potential as far as the mod is concerned with many people trying out and being very impressed with the quality of the mod.

One issue however still remains. When are people on? New players main problem is finding a time when other people are playing so that they can enjoy a well populated game of First Strike.

With that in mind we've thrown up this post to remind you and encourage all First Strike players to get on-line this weekend (March 12th & 13th) at 20:00 GMT (this converts to 21:00 CET, 15:00 EST, 12:00 PST) for the Community Games held on Saturdays & Sundays at this time, this coming weekend, and all weekends to come. Lets get some good numbers on this weekend and show what this mod is capable of to new players, we'll be regularly reminding people of this event so new players can easily find a time to meet players of First Strike on-line.

[UPDATE:]

This event will take place on the =SBB= server. The First Strike Dev Team would like to thank the SBB clan for their support in choosing to host the Community Games this weekend, if you'd like to learn more about this clan head over to their website www.sbb-clan.de for more information.

See you out there troopers.

 NIC First Strike Campaign Event
06 Mar 2011 - 09:03 by TALON FirstStrike News | comments (154)

The Alliance to Restore the Republic grows in numbers as the Galactic Empire attempts to increase its stranglehold over the galaxy. Battles rage across the stars as the small Rebel fleet engages Imperial supply routes, while various planets play host to an increasing number of skirmishes.

Imperial Forces have received new orders, to exterminate the Alliance once and for all.

Hosted by Nations In Conflict, the First Strike Mod Team are pleased to announce the arrival of the First Strike Campaign. The campaign will see players sign up to fight for a chosen side, Imperial or Rebel, and fight across a different area of the galaxy each week. Points will be awarded to the victors and records kept to see which side will win control of the galaxy!

For more information visit the Nations In Conflict website at http://nictest.enjin.com and remember to sign up to fight for your favourite team. Those that feel they have a tactical edge that could sway the tide of battle may also want to sign up for one of the available Officer positions, and take control of a squad or even act as Commander.

Once all officer positions have been filled we will post the starting date for the tournament. Until then, remember to register your interest and don’t forget to join the Community Games held every Saturday and Sunday night.

What are you waiting for Trooper?
