 First Strike Fan Fiction Contest
08 Apr 2009 - 18:04 by TALON FirstStrike News | comments (71)

Greetings Troopers!

Welcome to the First Strike Fan Fiction Contest. We’d like to take this opportunity to give the more artistic of you out there the chance to exercise those creative muscles and dazzle us with creative writing based on the back stories featured in the loading screen intel reports of any of our current maps, or perhaps a fictionalized account of a particularly exciting round you have played of First Strike.

There are countless stories to be told here, from the build up to the Rebel invasion of Imperial facilities on Rhen Var, to tales of the numerous encounters on Tatooine. Tell the personal story of an unknown grunt or show an epic overview of galactic conquest. First Strike's little corner of the Star Wars galaxy is your playground.

So what prize do you stand to win should yours should be the winning entry? The author of the winning short story shall be given the opportunity to write the official intel report for an upcoming map to be released for First Strike. This prize will include advance access to the map in question (after all you will need to know the layout of the map in order to fashion an appropriate back story). Also testing status allowing them to get to play on that map and any others currently in development for First Strike well ahead of the general public. Once written the intel report will be checked over by FS Devs to make sure it is up to the standard we require and then the intel report shall become an official part of First Strike canon, and an official part of the mod.

The Rules

Now we come to the rules. This is a short story writing competition, your story should be no more than 2000 words, and should take its inspiration from either any of the intel reports from current First Strike maps (you can take a line from the report and expand upon that, or the situation described as a whole), or you can also create fiction based on in game experiences within First Strike. Contestants can submit as many entries as they like but will only be judged on the best one of them, so you won’t get extra points for creating a multi story saga, any story will be judged on its individual merits. Your stories must also fall within parameters that are in tune with the spirit of the Star Wars movies, meaning no porno or excessively gory or profanity filled pieces. Aside from that you should just go for it and let those creative juices flow.

Entries shall be posted by their authors in the Contest Forum in individual threads for each story. Here you can post them for people to see and critique, and you can as the competition continues post additional improved drafts based on people’s feedback if you wish. The final version of the story in the thread at the time of the close of the contest will be the one that is entered into judging for the competition.

Once the closing date of the competition has been reached on the 29th of May, all the entry threads will be locked and a panel of judges made up of Dev team members will read these works giving them marks out of 5, The story with the most points after this period of judging will be declared the winner, and the writer will receive his or her prize that being the opportunity to write an Intel Report as mentioned above.

Head to the Contest Forum for a more detailed copy of the rules, and you can also check out a sample of the sort of thing we're looking for. A short story to help you get your creative juices flowing.

Good luck Troopers, and happy writing. We all look forward to reading your mini epic works of fiction.

 April Fool's!
02 Apr 2009 - 14:04 by Imperial FirstStrike News | comments (54)
First, we'd like to thank you all for the great turn out yesterday on our April Fool's Event! For those of you who didn't get the joke, no.. we're not adding Jedi and Bounty Hunters to the mod, so hopefully you enjoyed it while it lasted and check the date next time. Here is a video to give an idea of some of the action, never to be seen again...

Now, back to our regularly scheduled programming.. it's the end of the month and that means a promotion ceremony is in order.

I find your lack of faith disturbing...

These are dark days for the Empire, with the destruction of the Emperors super weapon, morale among the Imperial military forces is at an all time low. And even as the Rebel forces grow bolder striking out at our less well defended outposts far in the Outer Rim they still remain elusive. It will take all the cunning and guile that our best military leaders can muster to track down and destroy our enemies, but the Emperor has faith in your abilities as he knows you are all well aware of the price that must be paid for his displeasure.

Grand Admiral SamZi...

Your continuing success record spanning over campaigns across myriad worlds remains unabated. The Emperor is most pleased with your progress. With you in the role of Grand Admiral the Rebellions days are surely numbered.

Grand Moff Oddball...

You have maintained a level of excellence which is to be commended, rising admirably to the challenges of your new position. In addition it gives me great pleasure to award you with the Imperial Medal of Honour for distinguished service in the forces of the Emperor. Congratulations.

Moff JE_Twigs...

You have also performed exceptionally well in your new role, Rebel activity within the Sector under your command has dropped significantly while its levels rise elsewhere. You are to be commended for your continuing high level of service to the Imperial forces.

Fleet Admiral TK-7642...

Your lightning fast ascension up the higher ranks of the Imperial military it would seem knows no bounds. Your successes in your new role have been duly noted and High Command believes that you are ready to take on even more responsibility as the Emperor himself has high hopes for you. So it is with great pleasure that we offer you your new rank of Moff. Use your new power wisely as the Emperors eyes are on you now.

Moff DanteFess...

It seems the current changing climate of the war has taken its toll on you and your performance has suffered of late, there are new officers hungry for power, who are out performing you. I must regretfully inform you of your demotion to the rank of Fleet Admiral. You must adapt or face the consequences of further failure under the Emperors ever watchful gaze.

Fleet Admiral Plokun...

You have performed well in your new role of Fleet Admiral, the ships under your command have won many victories over Rebel Alliance forces and you are to be commended. Well done.

Fear not troopers...

The battle for supremacy of the galaxy continues, show your dedication and prowess on the galactic battlefields and maybe the next Grand Admiral will be you.

It is with great pleasure I announce to you today the latest of developments in the realm of FirstStrike. If any of you have launched your game today, you'll notice we've released a new update. In an effort to populate servers and allow our community to grow, we are changing our direction in order to cater to a less specific and much larger audience. This means including a lot of things that in the past we said we would never do, but we believe it ultimately to be for the best, with this recent push to grow our population.

So, within this update, what you'll find is the following:
- All maps include hero kits within the standard kit selection:
-- you can now choose to play as a Jedi (Rebellion) in any round.
-- you can now choose to play as a Bounty Hunter (Empire) in any round.

We hope to see you all on the battlefield soon!
