Thanks for your service... |
|
| Commander DanteFess...
You have done a great service to the Empire, inspiring activity throughout the ranks and displaying an excellence beyond compare, no matter what task is put before you. Your service has already been commended numerous times through a plethora of awards, it is time, however, you be given something more. You are hereby being awarded the first ever Grand Admiral title. Be forewarned, this is not a permanent promotion. You must continue to prove your worth, or you will be replaced.
Commander TK-7642...
You, as well, have continually showed your skill on the battlefield. You have spent more time in the field than any other trooper within this Empire. Though your record is not perfect, you have achieved numerous awards and have proven yourself to be a highly dedicated soldier. As such, we believe it in the best interest of the Empire to give you the first ever rank of Grand Moff. However, you must use your new power wisely. As with the Grand Admiral, you will be promptly replaced should you neglect your duties.
Commanders Oddball-UK, JE_Twigs, RSFAngel, and adultswim...
Though your service has not matched the excellence of DanteFess or TK-7642, you as well have accomplished great feats on the battlefield. As such, you will be properly commended and given your fair place as a leader within this great Empire. Oddball and Twigs, you will be given the position of Moff. Angel and adultswim, you will be given the position of Fleet Admiral. As with the others, you too are expendable. Continue to display your prowess on the battlefield, or you will be replaced.
As for the rest of you troopers...
Continue you to press forth in the name of the Empire. For every victory you achieve on the Battlefield, you come one step closer to taking your own rightful place in the leadership of this grand Empire. You can always check your progress, as well as that of your enemies, at http://stats.fsmod.com/

First Strike - In Association with Shattered Planet |
|
| We'd like to thank everyone for the huge turnout since the release, it has been quite a thrill to play on full servers. However, with the additional players comes additional strain on our website as the bandwidth is stretched. Over the past several days you may have witnessed some problems with the stats page, or the forums, or just the website in general, but there was a very good reason behind it, and today we have some excellent news to share with you: First Strike has a new sponsor!
Sponsored!
Shattered Planet has graciously decided to host our webserver following the succesful release of First Strike v1.2 What this means for you, our fans, is that our website (www.fsmod.com) will load much faster now that the strain has been eased by Shattered Planet's more robust server, and the problems with the stats page and forums should be resolved by now. Enjoy our speedy new website and feel free to stop by Shattered Planet's website to check out their stuff.
Join the Dark Side
Now that First Strike v1.2 has been released, it's time for the team to stop playing around with all the fun new toys, and get back to what we're supposed to be doing: making a mod. Although we will probably still play with our creation, there is much more to be done. To that end, we would like to enlist some more help to assist us in recreating beautiful Star Wars locales. Specifically, we're seeking experienced, dedicated texture artists with a love for Star Wars that can consistently produce beautiful, lore-accurate textures for our statics, vehicles, characters, etc. If you think you have what it takes please read the guidelines for the application here, and post an application here. We are always seeking other types of help as well, so if you're talented at other things such as modeling, animating, coding, etc. feel free to submit an application. Be sure to include examples of your past work!
Hot Hotfixes on the Way
As some of you have undoubtedly noticed, there were some issues discovered in the v1.2 patch, but have no fear, a hotfix is on the way. We're testing fixes for some of the known issues right now, and we hope to have everything cleared up and a hotfix out to by this weekend. In the meantime, enjoy v1.2 and be sure to continue leaving us your feedback in the forums. Thanks for playing!

1.2 MAP PREVIEWS: RHEN VAR: ICE PLAINS & RYLOTH |
|
| As promised to help satiate your appetite for all things First Strike while we put the last finishing touches onto v1.2 (you know put a little bow on it and that sort of thing), we’d like to introduce you to two more maps that you can expect to wage war over in the not too distant future. The first, Rhen Var: Ice Plains will be new to all of you, but the second map we’ll be focusing on, The Battle of Ryloth will be familiar to those who have been following our progress for some time, so why are we coming back to it again? All in good time.
Backstory
Rebel agents have discovered a secret Imperial research facility on the remote ice planet of Rhen Var. The facility is well protected, with a full garrison at its disposal. Alliance tacticians have developed a two-pronged attack to secure the facility. The first unit is combat dropped into the ice plains east of the target; equipped with a full armour column they intend to spearhead a direct frontal assault. Spotting the Imperial forces erecting a forward command post outside an ancient Jedi Temple ruin, the Alliance commander knows that his forces must keep them occupied long enough for the second phase of the operation to proceed.
Armored Assault
And so the stage is set, a desolate wintry landscape, vast columns of heavy armour on both sides, this map evokes memories of the great tank battles of our age such as the Battle of the Bulge, but set in the Star Wars universe. With no aircraft featuring in this map, players can concentrate fully on tank vs. tank battle tactics, learning the weaknesses of each vehicle you can formulate the best plan to defeat them, but if being a tank commander isn’t for you there is still plenty for you to do including infantry anti-tank duties. If you are on the Imperial team you will also get to defend your forward command post situated amongst the imposing ruins of Rhen Var’s ancient Jedi Temples, or if you happen to be on the Rebel team you will get the chance to spot targets for Mortar Freerunners. Using an artillery spotting system unique to First Strike, you in conjunction with a gunner aboard these special Freerunners can rain accurate death down on your enemies from right across the map. Let battle commence.
Backstory
The Empire’s counter attack following its defeat at the Battle of Yavin is swift and brutal. The vast Imperial fleet combs the Galaxy in search of Rebel strongholds. Following the discovery by Viper Probe Droids of a Rebel base in the wastes of Ryloth in the Outer Rim, the Star Destroyer Vengeance has been dispatched to the planet to deal with the Rebel scum. Following a devastating orbital bombardment by the mighty war cruiser it is time for Imperial forces to be dropped to the surface to mop up any survivors. This should prove an easy victory for the Empire.
What? No Twi’lek Dancing Girls?
Yes, we have covered Ryloth in an update before, but that really concentrated less on the map and more on the ideals behind a combined arms map, and the new vehicles you’d get to pilot there, but this was thin on actual detail about the map itself, and after several different incarnations the one we have finally selected for your pleasure is a decidedly different animal to what we had back in February. With this map we have tried to provide you with as exciting a playground as possible for you to try out all the new toys in. Canyons in which you can engage in hair raising dogfights with enemy fighters, complex mining installations with a dazzling array of levels for infantry to explore, wide open desert wastelands ideal for ground battles, and last but not least, a fully realized Rebel Base to be assaulted or defended. When you first arrive on Ryloth you’ll be spoilt for choice and won’t know what you’ll want to try first, though I imagine attacking a base in a fully manned Imperial Lambda shuttle with all guns blazing will be pretty high on your list.
Well I hope you have enjoyed this latest update as we fast approach the release of First Strike 1.2. Yes we have slipped a little and it looks like the release is going to be just a little further away than we expected, but rest assured that all the content is now in game and locked. Now it is just a case of intense play testing and bug fixing until we can release to you a good solid and well balanced product that you will find will be well worth the wait.

1.2 Map Previews: Rhen Var Research Facility |
|
| Hey guys, we’re quite sorry about the delay on this update, but the stuff we wanted to show off wasn’t quite ready to show off. We won’t let that happen again.
Anyhow, I have a few things for you today. First off is some great music created by steb74. These pieces will be featured on our previously announced map, Battle of Yavin. If you missed the initial announcement for Battle of Yavin, you can check out the old news post here.
So, without further ado, this first piece is what you will be presented with as your map loads: mp3
This second piece is an appropriately dark fanfare that you will hear if the Empire successfully destroys Yavin IV: mp3
And finally, a beautiful fanfare that you will hear should the Rebel’s accomplish the impossible and blow up the Empire’s technological menace: mp3
Secondly, I have a new map to reveal to you. This map is one of two that will take place on the planet Rhen Var in the upcoming release and is known as “Rhen Var Research Facility”. It’s quite a different experience when compared to your standard battlefield map, but an incredibly fun one as well. The level takes place in a heavy blizzard with a very low level of visibility, creating a lot of large firefights around the various control points causing you to constantly be at the ready as you never know when you might bump into a squad of Snowtroopers. Gamemode Description:This is a Push: Double Assault map. Both Imperial and Rebel forces can take and hold any flag. The team that drives the other off the map wins. The minimap indicates connected flags. Map Briefing:“During a Rebel armoured assault on an Imperial research facility on Rhen Var, a small team of Alliance commandos has successfully made an insertion to the west of the facility via cloaked transport. With the majority of the Imperial forces engaging the enemy to the east, the base’s remaining infantry and light armour must fend off the small but capable assault team, which has been tasked with capturing or eliminating any assets under construction within the facility.”

Stay tuned, we promise to have another update for you within the week. And this time we really mean it. Also, 1.2 is very near completion, please be patient. We want to release to you the best product we can. All content is in game and being heavily tested, we are just working out some final kinks in the balance before we can get it to all of you. Also, for server admins, if you've found the 1.1r server files to cause modified content issues for you, please grab the 1.15r server files from our downloads page.

1.2 MAP PREVIEWS: BESTINE AND ENDOR CLEARING |
|
| With the release of First Strike v1.2 just around the corner, we're pleased to present you with previews of the maps that you will find in our upcoming patch. Today we focus on Tatooine Bestine, and Endor Clearing, two very different, and very enjoyable maps.
Backstory
Completing a daring planet drop and pick up at Mos Entha, three Alliance Gallofree transports finally retrieved a group of stranded Rebel troops under siege by Imperial ground forces. Attempting to avoid the battle against Imperial forces still raging in orbit, the transports flew low and headed for an escape vector over the far side of the planet. Unfortunately, due to a navigational error they strayed too close to the Imperial capital city of Bestine. Once detected, the city’s defensive turbolasers shot down one of the transports. The remaining transports have made an emergency landing near the city outskirts, and the Rebels must now disable the city’s turbolaser emplacements to have any hope of escape.
Downed Transports
Although this will be TY2D2's first official map for First Strike, what a map it is. Featuring not one, not two, but three Gallofree transports (although one of them did get shot up by the Empire's massive turbolaser emplacements), various speeders, tanks, and a Mortar Freerunner (a Rebel Armoured Freerunner modified to fill an artillery role), there is rarely a break in the action during a round on Bestine. The pushmap gamemode keeps the fighting focused by preventing whack-a-mole style conquest that can spread forces thin, and the new vehicles add a great dynamic to urban combat in First Strike. Bestine brings intense infantry and vehicle combat throughout the richly populated and detailed city environment, and is sure to be a player favorite along the lines of BF2's popular Strike at Karkand come the release of v1.2. Enjoy these screenshots of some of Bestine's beautiful vistas:
Backstory
During the aftermath of the Battle of Endor, Imperial forces scattered across the forest moon. One platoon of Imperial troopers who returned from their recon mission too late to reinforce the shield generator has decided to cut their losses and run. They have two Lambda class shuttles ready to evacuate them, but with the Rebel fleet still in orbit, fleeing to space would be doomed to failure. However, while monitoring Alliance com chatter they discovered a Gallofree transport that crash landed near their position during the battle in orbit. If they could salvage the vessel’s transponder, it could be their ticket off the planet. But as the platoon approaches the wreckage, a Rebel Alliance search and rescue team arrives...
Transports That Have Crashed
Those Gallofrees just can't seem to keep themselves from plowing into the ground at high velocity, eh? Well it's a good thing it makes for a fun map. Clearing features some plain old infantry fun through fern covered meadows, huge trees, and even across the previously unreleased Ewok Water Village. With plenty of trees to hide behind on the outskirts of the control point areas, taking and holding CPs in Clearing's clearings can be challenging without a well coordinated squad. Teamwork and strategy are key to pushing back the enemy in this map, and you should never underestimate the value of flanking your targets. Endor Clearing's long sight lines, scattered cover, and beautiful environment make it an excellent map for 1.2, and these screenshots speak volumes:
Pin This Up
